Whether from Nature or as an Act of Bioterrorism, SARS Poses a Threat to National Security

Under a $1.9 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Verenium is developing antibodies to diagnose and treat Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). Under the three-year grant, Verenium is discovering and optimizing antibodies against targets associated with the SARS-coronavirus. In collaboration with Verenium, the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) will test the selected antibody candidates for their ability to neutralize live SARS-coronavirus.
