Verenium maintains extensive expertise in both host engineering and bioprocess design to ensure the efficient scale-up of bench top processes (>500 mL) to commercial enzyme production (>1000L). With a staff of scientists and engineers, and a suite of top-of-the-line equipment, Verenium's process development expertise is a one-stop shop for the efficient production of specialty industrial enzymes. On-site equipment includes fermentors ranging in scale from 300 mL to 500L, micro/ultrafiltration from 10L to 500L scale, continuous desludging centrifuge, in-line homogenizer and lyophilizers. In addition, our experts can refine processes used at scale to improve costs, validate new procedures and/or ingredients, and troubleshoot variances.
Verenium has established an exclusive, long-term relationship with FERMIC, S.A., one of the largest fermentation facilities in Latin America, to co-invest in capacity to manufacture enzymes and other proteins. This U.S. FDA-GMP facility increases Verenium’s available manufacturing capacity to a level sufficient for the production of enzyme products representing more than $100 million in potential future annual product sales by Verenium and its partners. Fermic maintains 20,000L to 190,000L fermentors, along with multiple downstream recovery lines, in its partnership with Verenium for flexible and customized enzyme production.
